I know I haven’t posted in a long time, but I am alive and I have been training.
Training has not been anywhere near where I would like it to be, but I have been getting in a run every day and have had some decent workouts over the past few weeks. My hip/low back/whole left side issue is still around, but it has been getting better every day. I believe I have found the factors that have lead to the issues. It seems my hip flexors (especially psoas and rectus femoris) are extremely tight on my left side and this has caused my left gluteus maximus to not fire properly when running. This has also lead to my hamstring muscles doing more work than necessary…leading to upper hamstring issues at the area where they go in to the gluteal muscles. The main issue in training has been completing faster workouts. I have been able to get in decent mileage and long runs, but not the faster/quality workouts I would normally be able to complete.
Here are a couple workouts from the past week:
Monday 9/23: (T.Rowe Price Rolling 1 mile road loop) 3 mile warm-up…8 miles alternating mile hard/mile moderate in 5:56/5:02/5:59/4:57/5:54/4:55/5:56/4:51….3 mile cool-down
Wednesday 9/25: (Valley Centre Parking Lot/Loop) 6 mile warm-up…6 x 200 (:34)…2 loops at 5:15/mile..6 x 200 (:33)…2 loops at 5:06/mile….4 mile cool-down
I still have some work to do, but I’m definitely getting in shape quickly.
This weekend I think I am going to run Race for Our Kids. I have run the race since 2006 and really love the event.
